ebayYou’ve put the effort into your eBay listings but your product or products still don’t seem to be selling, what are you doing wrong?

These days people expect more out of an eBay listing than just a simple description and one photo. If you put the effort in, you’ll see your eBay sales start to really increase.  Make sure you aren’t making any of these common mistakes.

Not optimising your listing title or description

Pack your listing title and description with as many relevant keywords as you can fit in to reach more potential buyers. Include brand names, colours, sizes, and more that people are most likely to type into the search bar to find your items. Write detailed descriptions of your items so that your potential customers are completely informed about your products helping them to decide to choose your listings over competitors.

Charging the wrong price

Many people are unsure what to charge for items on eBay, as often times you may have to change your price depending on what platform you are selling on. Do your research and search what similar items are selling for on eBay and price accordingly. You can go a step further and see what past listings have sold for in the advanced search by choosing ‘sold listings’ as an option. Giving the right price to your goods ensures that you can compete with other sellers.
Alternatively, if you are using the auction method it is a good idea to start your pricing low so as to attract the highest amount of bidders. If you know what you want to get out the item you can set a reserve bid to ensure you don’t sell the item for less than it’s worth. Longer auctions tend to do better as more people have the chance to come across your items. You can also sometimes make more than you were hoping as many eBay users are very competitive and like to bid until the very last minute.

Not including enough or good quality photos

Would you want to buy an item that you can’t see? Most people don’t want to take this gamble and often won’t even click on a listing with either no photo or a blurry one where they can’t see the product properly. Include several photos from different angles to really show off items you are selling and give prospective buyers a really good look at your products. You don’t need fancy camera equipment to take a good photo, most smart phones these days do a great job. Make sure you place your item in natural light (though not in direct sun) near a window and if needed use a photo editing app/computer program to enhance your images. Always try to take photos yourself as using stock photos can sometimes give buyers the impression that you are hiding what the item really is or it’s condition.

Not getting enough feedback

People trust sellers who have good feedback ratings and a proven track record of selling goods as described. Ask customers for feedback to bump up those ratings. Alternatively, ensure that you are fulfilling orders in a timely manner and accurately describing products to avoid negative feedback.

Presentation letting you down

So you’ve got a great description, included some clear photos, but people still aren’t giving your shop much love. This is where templates really help an eBay shop shine. You can use a template to dress up your listing as you would a shop window to not only highlight your products with special features, but you can also use it to highlight policies of your shop, shipping methods, returns, cross sell complementary products, answer frequently asked questions and more.
